INTRODUCING 100% BIODEGRADABLE POLY
All of Prospect Media’s poly products are 100% biodegradable. While we recognize that this is not a solution to littering, biodegradable polybags limit their affect on landfills, by safely degrading within a few months. In comparison, conventional plastics can persist unchanged for decades and sometimes centuries.
What are biodegradable plastics?
Biodegradable plastics are defined by ASTM D883-99 as “A degradable plastic in which the degradation results form the action of naturally-occurring micro-organisms such as bacteria, fungi, and algae.” EPI’s TDPA™ additives are the catalysts that accelerate the process.
The process is Oxo-biodegradation, which first converts the plastic by reaction with oxygen to molecular fragments of water. These smaller oxidized molecules are biodegraded and converted into carbon dioxide, water and biomass, by microorganisms.
• Biodegradable plastics are not only degradable, but can be re-used and recycled in the existing recycle stream
• High quality poly product without the environmental damage
• Cost equivalent alternative to traditional poly product
• TDPA™ additives comply with CFIA (Canadian Food Inspection Agency) requirements and are safe for food contact applications
• Biodegradable plastics produce no harmful residue after biodegradation
